Spring Break 2010

For Spring Break this year we took our first family RV trip and drove south. We ended up in Mountain View Arkansas where we camped out, played games, and canoed ten miles of the White River. It was a trip to remember and a fun family outing.

Bad Poison

I went on a poison annihilation hunt on our property this weekend and successfully slaughtered multiple vines and shrubs of poison ivy, oak and sumac. Some of the vines were very mature and had taken over the trees as you can see.

Found Them

My dad has been telling me about a mother and baby moose that have been spotted around the neighborhood. He's been keeping watch to spot them so I could get a picture for Kyla. Well I found them yesterday walking down the road and was able to drive up right between them.

Birds

We love watching our bird feeders. Last night we had our biggest snow of the year and today the birds came in flocks. We saw cardinals, brown-headed cow birds, woodpeckers, chickadees, finches, sparrows, doves, starlings, red wing black birds and a pair of gackles.

Copperhead Snake

So far this year we've seen four copperhead snakes on our property. Three of them were smaller ones, but this one was a mature one at about 23". They seem to like to warm up on our concrete driveway. We usually let friendly snakes slither away, but the copperheads always end up headless when Justins done with them.

Fishing With Bears and Birds

One of the highlights of the Alaska trip was silver salmon fishing with the bears and birds. We saw two brown bears and two black. Also saw this great bald eagle standing proud, and seagulls, ducks, and puffins. Our guide grilled us some fresh salmon on the boat and we watched a brown bear quickly approach.

Leaves are Falling

It's good to see Kyla again after being gone for six days. This weekend we spent a lot of time outdoors enjoying the wonderful weather. Kyla helped me rake some leaves and then we jumped in the big leaf pile.

Three Turkeys

Today I worked remote from my back porch and especially enjoyed the three turkeys that hung out all day in my backyard. They've been regular visitors lately and seem to enjoy the supply of bugs and grasshoppers on the Lindsey lawn.

Nature walks

We are getting our share of nature at our house. Last night I spotted this deer about 30' from our front window. In the backyard Kyla and I spotted an owl and we saw some baby turkey in the field attached to our property. I also noticed that the caterpillars that I caught the other day have begun their transformation process and are forming cocoons. Kyla seems to really appreciate all that goes on outside.

Abby and Simon

We have a couple new pets that we've picked up on our way home - literally. They were both crossing T Highway when we spotted them and swooped them up. Last night we gave them some cardboard to hide under and cleaned out their water tray.

I hear the little one likes grubs, so I'll have to dig a few up and see. Abby is the big one and Simon is the little guy. We had another little one, named Tom, but he has moved on into the woods :)

Lindsey Flood 07

Where now a river crosses our country road.

The new lake between our upper 4 acres and our lower 3 acres. Back behind is the covered road and a huge roaring river. This creek is usually about 4" deep, but now it's over 4 feet on our property and over 20 feet back behind.

The neighbor kid walked down our road right in front of our mailbox with waders on until he had to turnaround because the water was seeping in.
