Tim Update

Hi everyone - as some of you may know, Zaylee and I arrived in Alaska on Wednesday to spend some time with my dad who is still fighting pancreatic cancer. Last Friday he had surgery to replace the hose in his chest that drains the fluid as it builds up in his body. After this round of surgery he was having a very difficult time getting his pain under control. Since I've been here, he has managed to get his medication back on track and appears to be feeling better.

He looks skinner than ever now and has lost some color but he still hangs in there day by day. He now has an oxygen machine and an inhaler to assist with his breathing because he becomes very winded just talking. His appetite fluctuates, and the reactions to the medications sometimes make it hard to keep food down. He has a new bed that allows him to sleep elevated and I can tell that it helps because he is able to sleep through most of the night.

Even with the seriousness of the situation he still has his sense of humor. We've been enjoying some time together as he tells me stories of his life and the things he has learned along the way. Zaylee was unsure at first but has started to warm up to her Papa and it won't be long before she'll embrace him and give him hugs.

Please keep my dad and family in your thoughts and prayers. It's still very winter up here with lots of snow and below zero temps. I can tell Dad's situation has taken its toll with some of my family that has been caring for him so long. I hope Zaylee and I can bring some warm midwest sunshine up and contribute a little something for everyone.
